The registrations for this year’s edition of the SIMFEST Festival have ended. 403 audiovisual productions from 56 countries will compete. All continents are basically represented, except for the polar caps.
The 18th edition brings a lot of news. First of all, SIMFEST remains the only television festival in Romania (and one of the few of its kind in Europe) but, following numerous requests from the country and abroad, it has expanded its area of interest to everything that means audiovisual creation. Therefore, its new title is: “SIMFEST International Film and Television Festival”.
Prestigious organizations in the fields of journalism and audiovisual joined this year’s edition. The Union of Film and Audiovisual Professionals of Romania UPFAR – ARGOA offers the Grand Prize of the festival worth 3,500 euros. The prize for European Journalism, worth 2,500 lei, is offered by the Romanian Association of Independent Journalists AZIR, the national branch of the European Association of Journalists AEJ. Tritonic Books and LIBRIS.ro are offering prizes in objects (books and music CDs). The Union of Professional Journalists of Romania UZPR is a partner in organizing a debate entitled: “Is the press still the fourth power?”. The Society of Romanian Authors from Audiovisual DACIN-SARA is supporting the promotion of Romanian film. A “Romanian Film Week” will be organized within SIMFEST, during which the public will have the opportunity to see 5 Romanian awarded films. The films are provided by UPFAR-ARGOA.
The filmmakers from OWH Studio Chisinau are proposing a moment with a special emotional charge: we will commemorate together the tragic moment, which took place 80 years ago, of the first Stalinist deportations of Romanians from Basarabia to Siberia, through the public screening of the documentary “Siberia from Bones” , directed by Leontina Vatamanu.
The most important moments will be broadcast live via online streaming.
SIMFEST 2021 will take place in Tîrgu Mureș, between September 13 and 19. The organizer of the festival is the SIMFEST Cultural Association. Producer: ASTRA DELL ARTE Bucharest.
